Cycling in the Creuse

Cycling in the Creuse is very popular, in particular the ‘Tour de Creuse’ cycle route which takes in a large circular route around the department. It is over 320 km of signposted cycle routes taking in some of the most beautiful Creuse scenery.

The closest section to us from Chambon-sur-Vousize to Chatelus Malvaleix is a 56 km stage and we often have cyclists stay with us who are on this tour.

From beginners to experienced cyclists, we have seen all levels of ability attempting the route. In a recent group, one of the participants regularly did 100 km a day and he was in his seventies.

Clearly cycling is great for your overall health and fitness, and whilst the route might be demanding for some, the advancement of electric bikes has meant that it is achievable by all.

We can offer overnight accommodation, evening meals, storage of equipment, battery charging and access to tools for any mid-route maintenance. Also included is a hearty breakfast to set you up for the next stage of your journey.

I think cycling in the Creuse can only become more and more popular as the area is not densely populated so you benefit from non-polluted, quiet country roads or cycle routes, with little traffic to explore rolling countryside, woodland, lakes, pretty towns & villages including heritage sites. Include a cold beer and pleasant lunch in a pretty rural location on route, then what more could you ask for?
